Menzies Galleries and Museums

3. Gwalia Museum- A short drive from Menzies, Gwalia is a well-preserved gold-mining ghost town that gives a glimpse of what life was like during the early 1900s. The museum within it features exhibitions on the history of the town and its people.

Historical venues:
1. Menzies Cemetery- The cemetery provides an interesting and fascinating insight into the area’s history and people, many of whom were miners and suffered an early death. The headstones offer information about the lives of these people and the many perils they faced living in such a harsh environment.
2. The Menzies Hotel- Also known as the Menzies Miner’s Arms, the hotel dates back to 1895 and is a great example of a typical outback pub. It has been beautifully preserved and still offers meals, drinks and accommodation to visitors.
3. The Menzies Tourist Centre- The centre is housed in the old shire offices, providing information on local sites and tours, as well as having some great displays of historical artefacts.

Visiting any of the sites mentioned above will give travellers a great insight into the rich cultural and historical heritage of the region.
